Oulton Broad Motor Boat Club

A blustery cool start at Beccles Quay on the Friday, when most boats arrived – and not much improvement for the Saturday, but Sunday was calm & dry, with some sun.
10 club boats were at Yacht station ( including 1 “home” moorer and one new member “home” moorer) Not such a good turnout but considering it was a “Non-event”, due to the current Covid threat, it was nice to see so many club members turn up
Another blustery day dawned on the Saturday so not much activity on the quayside, and a few went up the town – shopping, and the local pubs no doubt? Bob & Norma came along by car, just a quick visit to say “hello” to the few members who had braved the weather.
NO club trophy presentations this year.
NO prize raffle this year.
Sunday was a much better day, calmer, and the sun came out to warm us a little, and it enabled us to sit outside around mid-day. We had a few more visitors then – Roger joined us for a few hours on “Tantalus IV”, with his makeshift crew of Steve & Angela; Bill & Sandra (Mr.C) popped along by car; and Andy & Lucie (Hakuna Matata), accompanied by Wayne & Tanya (Emaly), who were out for a walk. Nice to see them all, and to have some social-distanced chats.
Dave had spent some of the morning on Mike’s boat “Night Owl”, investigating an overheating engine problem. He backwashed and cleaned out the raw water system, then changed the pump impellor, before all was well again. Mike & Denise then disappeared downriver for an hour or so, to check all was now well. Well done our Dave, once more!
A few boats then set off for home, whilst the weather remained good, and others went back on Monday. That was it then, the end of the final event (well, non-event?) of the season – a season like no other. Decimated by the corona-virus pandemic rules and regulations. We can only hope that next season will not be similarly blighted, and hope that the Club events in 2021 can go ahead as planned.
The venue next year for our Dinner dance has yet to be decided. It will be in Beccles, where we are hoping to give the new Sea Scouts hall a try if / when they have the correct licenses in place. Failing that it may again be the Waveney House hotel, the Staithe Suite, but we are all decided that we must do something next year – the dinner dance was sorely missed this year!
Please note the provisional date of 16th.October 2021.
